So, Microsoft's carbon emissions went up 25% last year because of all those AI data centers. Yeah, I heard the news. The CEO says they’re still on track for 2030, but man, that’s a big jump. AI’s a beast when it comes to power usage.
I mean, we all know how much energy those servers suck. Even with water conservation and waste reduction progress, the AI expansion is a huge hurdle. How’s the company planning to offset that? Are they relying on more renewables, or is it just a numbers game?
As a homelab guy, I’ve been trying to run my setup on solar + battery, but even that’s a niche approach. If Microsoft can’t scale clean energy for their data centers, how do they expect the rest of us to keep up?
Also, the AI stuff is wild. I’ve been tinkering with some ML models on my rig, but it’s a pain to manage the power draw. Maybe there’s a smarter way to balance innovation with sustainability?
